After a very long period of thinking, considering and comparing a lot of different phones, I have made the decision to switch from android to iPhone. I'm coming off a Samsung galaxy note 9, and just picked up the IPhone SE 2020 128gb. Because i don't know if I'm going to like it, i have chosen the cheapest iPhone (ok, not the 64gb version but the 128gb) so when i don't like it, it haven't cost me a huge amount of money. As the ecosystem is the same as the high end models iphone 11. I will have to get used not to have a stylus anymore, and a lot smaller size screen, I hope I made the right decision...

Of course you did. First, any iPhone is a good decision. Second, the SE is the most portable and pocket size. It fits just right in your hand.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

Iphone XS is the best in the market

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

Sounds like you didn’t want it in the first place. Just here for attention?

nope, i actually took several weeks to think about it, and to consider / compare different phones. I didnt want to spend over a €1.000,- for a phone anymore. With half the price the SE is the best quality phone for its price compared to others

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

That’s a massive jump to be honest
From giant phone to tiny phone
From a massive screen to a tiny one
From all day battery to a pretty average battery life
From multiple cameras to one camera
From a stylus to no stylus
If you don’t get in with the phone it’s probably not the phones fault as it is the polar opposite to what you had before

well, my current phone doesnt have a full day battery life anymore, so I'm used to that, and as a truck driver, i can plug it in whenever i need / want to. It is a test, to check out if i like the ecosystem, if i do get used to it, and like it, i might upgrade to a bigger iphone in the future.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

I bought the SE because of the small screen, I don't like the big screen phone, I liked the SE very much

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

The SE has the same CPU as in the 11 pro. Good buy.

It's a good phone for the money. But CPU isn't the only important factor. Display and battery life are at least as important.

I already noticed battery life isn’t great, but with 30 min. On the charger it is from 20% to 80%. So that’s fine for me

While I agree those are important specs, only very specific people need the best display (edit: and honestly, the next best display is still awesome) and as far as the battery there are ways to compensate for this downfall such as a battery case or a portable battery pack.
iPhone SE is great value for the money.

I always carry a power bank with me

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

It already sounds like you’ve already made your decision as you stated “when I don’t like it”

let them be ashamed “when they are no longer willing to leave the Perfect Apple Land”

true true

liam does have a point it’s all bout wording now the SE is a little smaller then what I have I went from iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone XR and I like it was once a android person will never go back

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

Coming from a note, 9 it’s a terrible decision, maybe for the XS max !

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

I would return and get a used XR. It will be much closer to your Note 9.

well, i wanted to downsize a little bit...

SE is WAY smaller than Note 9 though. And XR will also be similar because Note 9 also doesn’t have home button

yes, note 9 does have a home button, but it is inside the screen

I mean a Physical home button....

Also I’m very sure that there is no home button under the screen

it is not physical, it is a touch button with a vibration feedback

it doesn’t matter how it works, it’s a physical button. It can be removed and replaced. The home ‘button’ on note 9 is only software.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

Why would you buy a brand new phone if you weren’t sure you were gonna like it? You could have got a used 7 or even a 6s for 1/3 the price and it would tell you everything you need to know about the iPhone and if you wanted to switch. You sir made a terrible mistake lol

I don’t like second hand stuff, it might not be functioning as new, I might think it’s crap...

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

Long time Android user here (pixel XI, nexus 6p, nexus 5 and a bunch of cheap models all the way to the htc dream. Yeah that’s right. I’m OG!
) and couldn’t be happier i switched. After 10 minutes of being impressed by how smooth everything is and getting used to the UI it dawned on me : this is how all smart phones should feel. This is a true smartphone experience

Well you can buy universal stylus from amazon that works on all phones

you can’t compare that kind of stylus to the notes stylus mate

Agree thats why i keep note 10+ along with my iphone xs

avatar

Want to switch to ios too

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

I have had the SE 2020 for several months. It’s powerful, has a great camera, loaded with features, gets upgraded frequently and is just the right size. If I wanted a larger footprint I’d strap an IPad to my hip

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

A lot of what makes iPhones better is just better apps. In my particular line of work there are so many good apps that aren’t available on Android

that’s not a reason often cited in all the iOS vs Android flame wars I see online. I have to admit you have me curious about the details

from what I’ve seen the hardware on Samsung phones is really good. But I teach music and when I am listing apps for students to use, I always search the Google Play store to see if a specific app is available for them and a lot are not.

You should get i11

I am first going to try out the SE. if I still like it after 2 years and I want to stay with Apple I get the 12 or 13 then

avatar

My husband has the iPhone se because he is a workman and keeps smashing his phones and he’s been very impressed with both the battery life and speakers of the se:)

First of all
for yr new iPhone SE 2. Slowly and steadily you will start loving and appreciating iOS and the ease of using an iPhone. It's nice to see such transitions from Android devices users. Do install the latest iOS 14 software update in your iPhone SE 2.

But the bezels is massive

I don’t care about the bezels, in fact, I like to hold my phone without covering the screen with my fingers while I’m watching a video or play games

March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

If you bought it from Apple, you can always return it within specific time. If you ever have issues with the phone, you can always go to Apple store. Also, the best thing about Apple products is that you get software updates for the next few generations. They might still support your phone once we hit iOS 18

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

Very nice! You've made a right decision. And your former phone is great as well. What are your plans with your former ones?

ill probably keep it for my android games / apps not available on ios

you're absolutely right some games are not available on ios, kinda shame on ios' part.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

Good job
. I would say judge the phone on the basis of internals as of now as the body of iPhone SE is a little old and then If u like it you can go for some new shape iPhone in future

yes, I don’t care about an old design, the apple design is timeless anyway.

Battery life will suck keep tat in mind

battery from my old phone is done as well... got 3 hours screen on time today, and didn't do any gaming or heavy processing stuff, still got 20% left now... i have watched some battery test video's about the SE, and i figured out that the energy usage (mah per hour) is the lowest as all other high end smartphones. So best energy efficiency. I can charge it all the time with a powerbank.

Cool jst wanted to keep ur expectations in check or ul go back to android saying iOS is not optimised with the battery

With MagSafe it charges up to 15w, non- approved MagSafe is limited to 7.5w wireless charging.

All wireless chargers on any phone other than iP12 series with MagSafe are limited to 7.5w

So wireless fast charger is not fast

it’s faster than a 5w but not by much

Got my new Belkin 3 in 1 charger for the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro!
1. It can charge in combination of what is shown in the picture.
2. You can charge 2 iPhones and the Apple Watch.
3. You can turn the iPhone in landscape and watch a video and it won’t interfere with the Apple Watch.
4. The stand has weight to it so it doesn’t move when placing items on to charge or taking them off.
5. IT’S AWESOME!

Charge phone in 3 hours

No, that is a 15 watt charger on that stand. It’s one of the few iPhone charging stands out there that can charge 15 watts for an iPhone. So, within an hour it will have the phone charged over 50 percent. That isn’t bad at all and it does it in a nice safe way that helps reduce the impact on battery health.

When you need to do it, it will show you a message

I waited for this message.

when my 11 pro battery got really bad I got the message at 75%

my iPhone 11 is at 84%.
It’s still okay. I usually get three years out of them.

You should have replaced it when it dropped below 98%.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:33 p.m.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

Actually you don’t have to do it, it’s still your battery runs normal. Apple batteries are made well to last longer so don’t panic about it. You may worry if your phone did shutdowns or draining too fast unusual this may need for battery replacement

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

No don’t replace it yet yes as you said “Should I replace battery?” well hold it until the battery is not normal, but for now it looks good

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

If it becomes unreliable, which basically means when you notice stability issues.. battery drain, inaccurate battery readings and such. My 6S at 86% B-health drained in an hour from a full charge. Ontop of that, the battery health is an indicator and not very accurate. When it’s time to replace, you’ll notice.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

Get one if you’re tired of charging multiple times in a day. Its by far a better indicator than what the number tells you.
or if your battery swell (you have to change it if that happens)

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

probably you can replace the battery at that moment when it's already bulged enough, and ready to blast

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

I have the iPhone SE 2020 the second generation but I have 97% of maximum comparatively and I just got this phone three months ago and the reason being I got this phone I had an iPhone 7 Plus and I finally went out on me so I didn’t upgrade on my phone so I haven’t got an iPhone SE the 2020 and I really like this phone a lot I’ve never had issues with the phone runs fast

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

It’s your choice. You can change it anytime at 95% or 50%. Depends on how much it bothers with charging in every 5 hrs or less depending on your usage pattern. I had my iPhone 7plus at 67% and was still using it

uh she knows it’s a choice…..

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

I had an SE 2020 at 92% battery health, and it just died at 30%. Got it replaced about a week ago and going strong at the moment

I’d have to agree with this because I had a 6 and 7 with almost the same battery capacity and it died quickly

Yeah, had an original SE which did the same. Can be annoying too

turn off the phone, keep it in the box and in your drawer. that will keep the battery health up and high for a long time.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

That's a lot, my iPhone 12 is a year old and still 100% using the Apple 20w charger. The key is not to charge above 80% and not let it go below 30 or 40%, charging too high or letting it go too low puts a lot of strain on lithium batteries. A number of short charges throughout the day is better than one long charge

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

BATTERY HEALTH IS NOT ALWAYS GOING TO STAY AT 100%, IT IS NOT A PROBLEM IT GOES DOWN, IT IS JUST NATURAL…
Geez, all this obsession with battery health, how did it even start…

is the same all the day all days

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

How exactly is this an issue though. Stop overthinking it and simply use your phone. People psych themselves out with that number and in day to day usage you would never notice it
Oh and batteries wear out with use and every person uses their iPhone differently no matter what. Charging and usage patterns are different no matter what so it’s hard say.
It having gone down 1% in two months is not a problem.

Yup! iOS 15 has been hurting the battery on so many iPhones out there. This is not normal. I have an iPhone XR on iOS 12.4 and the battery life is on 100%!! Had the phone for almost three years!
I got the iPhone 12 Pro Max on iOS 15 and the battery life is on 82%!!
My iPhone 12 Pro Max is only 8 months old. So for those that are saying “It’s normal” get your head out of your asś! This isn’t normal. iOS 15 is a battery killer.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

You will need to replace the battery once it drops below 80%. Chemical elements in the battery do degrade over time. All I can say is that you shouldn’t get it overheated and always charge once it drops below 50 percents. But it can only slow the degradation. As I’ve stated earlier, you will need to replace it in a couple of years or so. My previous iPhone stayed 100 percent for most of the year, then it quickly deteriorated to 93. Still it was good as new, no worries there. I would just scrub that functionality and give a warning once it’s time to replace the bat.

Thanks for the tip

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

This percentage is an estimate that Apple makes. A possible prediction. That, of course, means nothing at all. Just keep in mind that you have to replace a battery once every 2 to 3 years. New batteries are not that expensive. Luckely, you can easily replace the battery of your iPhone yourself.......

Just don’t drain the battery less than 60%.
Once it comes down to 60 % recharge it to 90 or even 100 % depending on how your usage estimate is

That's pretty normal. My 11 Pro got to 98% on the second month and stayed there for almost a year after that.
Each and every battery is unique. Manufacturers usually give the capacity with a tolerance (±3%, for example). This just means that yours was from the below average group.

I got my 13PM 3 days after release, my average screen time is 13 hours, I’m disabled and can’t work, and I get bored. My battery health is still at 100%.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

I remember my 12 pro max got 99% battery health after 5 months but this 13 pro max I have observed that the battery keeps draining even though it is in standby mode.

Mine is on 82 and it’s an iPhone 12 Pro Max and not even a year old. I’m trading this phone in for the S21 Ultra 5G.

leaving apple ?

yes. I’ve been with them for over ten years. I never once had a battery issue like this on any of my old devices. I don’t trust Apple anymore. I’m leaving.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

Battery health decreased down to 99% . You find that a problem??

should be a problem. The iPhone is still brand new.

you’d be surprised. 99% after 3 months is just fine…

exactly man my 12 is at 99% after 4 no worries

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

Battery percent drop is upto charge cycle apple logarithm have designed on that pattern for example it have drop count equivalent to charge cycle

So with iPhones (I don't have one but considering one) I keep reading that if the battery health drops below 80% then it's time to replace the battery?
Why can't the battery go down to let's say 40%?

40% will be like 7 years of use

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

It’s not a “problem”. It’s what happens with batteries. I’ve had my 12 Pro for 7 months and it’s at 93%. Very normal.

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

My iphone XR battery Health 98 % in 11 month.
2 % decreased in 11 month

avatar
March 11, 2022, 10:32 p.m.

They shouldn’t start decreasing until at least 6 months later if you have your iPhone cool & don’t let it drop between 30% to 40% battery power and when its reach 30% battery power. Put the iPhone on charge turn off your iPhone while charging & leave it charging over night which reach 100% battery power, but don’t use the iPhone while it is charging because it’s can cause the battery to degrade if you not using while charging plug is in it’s not normally recommended until it’s fully charged at least 80% & not below 80% which can have effect to degrade faster if don’t disconnect it below 80%, but it’s will be 100% in the morning as it’s safer when fully charged overnight while you’ll in bed.

Every battery is different and within tolerances … everyone uses their phone different… you’ve lost 1% in 2 months … it’s fine and completely normal it just means you’ve been using your phone which you paid a lot of money for

I noticed that upgrading to new IOS updates was decreasing my iPhone maximum battery capacity. I stopped upgrading and my percentage is still at 93% since 6 months.

yes my iphone 12 is still on iOS 6 now. i stopped updating the firmware so the battery health will never drop.

avatar

Stop using fast charging, it hurt the battery.... a lot of heat will degrade your battery faster

thankyou for your suggestion

I don’t know, but how I safe my battery health on my iPhone
I usually start charging my iPhone from 20 or 25% to 100%.
I charge my iPhone only from power bank. Because my power bank when my iPhone reaches 100% my power bank automatically turn off and the charging stop.
That’s good because my battery is not still longer on 100%
And I don’t worry if I sleep in the night and put my phone to charge all night because my iPhone stop when the battery reaches 100%
I use only original cables and adapters.
iPhone 13 come without adapter make sure that you are buying original adapter.
