aw naw.
display is going weird on my thinkpad w520, it's hardware and I don't blame the GPU. both issues a different glitch between the nvidia and intel.
I checked the LVDS cable; the connection is fine. I've opened the lid, connection is also okay there.
Cleaned it all, an external monitor showed a correct desktop using the DisplayPort.
Checked and updated to the last available BIOS without any fix. Clearly not a driver issue (win7 / LMDE4 both shows same error)
Anyone else have this or had this problem? I will try a thing with another laptop display to know if it's the panel to replace. (full HD, no visible issues.)

External display image is fine? This is very strange, I've not seen this before.

That could be the LVDS connection, after ten years of moving on a mechanical hinge... It's weird.

Failed panel seen it a lot…just replace it

nah the panel is perfect, tested with a spare one, I therefore suspect the LDVC... VLTC... ah shit, the annoying bunch of tape-wrapped wires that connects to the motherboard that has gone through a whole decade of open_lid and close_lid.
