Just got a Thinkpad X61 recently for 50 USD. Chose the X61 because it is the last Thinkpad X with 4:3 display. Upgrade with SSD and new battery. It's quite snappy under Windows 10. The only issue is the new battery from China only last for one hour. Is it normal?

Just a crappy battery. Demand a refund and try another. I've dealt with this for old digital cameras. 3rd-party Chinese Li-ion packs are either crap to begin with or sit around so long cells go undervoltage and refuse to charge.

Awesome! Love x61. New 3 or 6 cell battery should hold at least 2 to 4 hours. My X200 has genuine new 3 cell battery and it is not good, it holds like 40min. I got a new GreenCell and that is holding up to 3hours.

That’s a beautiful machine, well done! You should be getting at least 3 hours out of the battery though minimum. I’d return it and try to find something closer to OEM equivalent. I know that’s harder to do with the older machines but you might try asking others with similar vintage ThinkPads what they’ve had good results with. The rub with a poorly manufactured battery is that it might not only hold a charge poorly but it can also be a fire hazard. If they can’t make a battery with the right longevity I wouldn’t trust them to get the rest right. I would double check all your system settings and logs first though of course, just to confirm it’s the battery and not the device just running WOT all the time. Though if it was you should have head the fans roaring constantly… Good luck! Keep us posted on third beauty! 😎
