So the last couple of days I've been thinking about ARM based laptop to see if they exist and bam look at that! Thinkpad x13s is the first ARM laptop worth buying. Want!

I thought about this but will just get an m2 MacBook air. Still love my ThinkPads and thinkcentres but they get so hot. x220, w500, m900 tiny, x1

The M2 MBA is actually a bit heavy in comparison.

i would love to get a m2 mac because the m series cpu is awesome just don't want to get lock into apple's closed eco system.

yeah I read about Linus modified fedora to support his m1/m2 mbp. I didn't know about the Asahi Linux though for support for m1/m2 macs. Yeah I bet it's pretty buggy. I definitely wait for a stable version as well as for the m1/m2 price to drop ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for feedback on Asahi linux, seems promising.

Could be. But wonโ€™t be.

PocketPC 2002 ran on ARM lol

does windows support arm?

as good as it (n)ever did ๐Ÿ˜ƒ In any case, linux will run far better (and probably longer - on it . But the HW looks great - an arm machine with a trackpoint device >;-)

glad you mentioned that. I actually have been using ThinkPad with linux for years. Trackpoint is good but touchpad gestures are not very well supported by linux..
some gestures don't function. for example a three-finger swap go forward and back in a web broswer.

yes, just like NT4 did, except your software that end in .exe will be aptly named.
same with linux but at least you could just recompile things from source for arm.

....
this is completely stupid.

There's a new Surface Pro generation coming next week. Probably means another ARM laptop to consider, though in a different form factor.

Also I got this in late 2016, not Lenovo but it did use an arm processor.

Extremely light, beautiful monitor. It's gone to the kids in the last few years for homework

Its arm, ofc it wont be worth it lol. If its not an m series mac arm is not the better choice for a laptop rn.

I just got one of these, itโ€™s faster than my previous Lenovo Flex 5G but not as slim, so far battery life is the only thing working for windows arm based laptops, software still needs some work

>ARM
why not MIPS or PPC? Ah yeah it worked well back in the 90s...

yes powerpc, mips & arm are sharing one thing, reduced instruction set computing ๐Ÿ˜‰ i think apple went full circle on that, they came from risc, got cisc in their machines and now they are back to risc! Maby a thinkpad arm hackintosh could be done? I love the thinkpad design though!

yeah but the mac software is one of the worst abomination ever brought by mankind. IBM also made a PPC thinkpad, rather a mobile workstation than a thinkpad for stocks inventory. running their OS comparable to a RS/6000 series.
It could have had potential to exit with the intel clones. X86 should have died decades ago, it was improved thanks to AMD64 but that's all.
ARM is cute for web and tablet but IU use a PC not as a terminal., I do graphic design on it, and photo processing. Yes I tried the new macs. they are terminals, akin to chromebooks.

If better Linux support existed for it Iโ€™d seriously consider picking up one

As someone who suffers with a Surface Pro X for work, I would wait a few more generations. Windows sucks even worse for ARM than it does for x86.
