Thinkpad T410: This might be a stupid question, but here goes.
This might be a stupid question, but here goes. Does a Lenovo T410 need a hard drive in order to turn on?
Thank you. I was thinking that might be a possibility. Looks like I need to buy a hard drive. Thanks
if it can post and get into the bios i say you're good to go. You can always boot from a usb drive if you want to try things out
Either the adapter or the motherboard or both are bad. Pointless to get a hard drive until it powers up.
To turn on, no. But it will need a power source in the form of a cable or a battery.
To operate it as a computer you will need a medium to run the operating system from and that you will need a harddrive or a usb flash memory for.
If you plug in the charger and it does not power on, then, you have a problem. First, try a different power supply/
But no a hard drive is not required to power on.
I am not up to speed on this particular model and can not tell you without searching if it has a internal battery, but the external battery you have might need a few hours of power before it sparks back to life. (can't tell you why, but from experience I figured that out).
If you do not get any reaction from the computer like lights and so forth with the battery in it, try and remove it and see if there is any change.
It there isn't, you need to start looking at the charger, the charging port/ socket and move on from there till you find the issue.
So I need to buy a hard drive. I know virtually nothing about hard drive except their storage capacity. What hard drive, or specs do I need to look at in order to buy the correct hard drive? Thanks
It won't power up. Have tried removing the battery and holding down the power button for up to a minute, reinserted the battery and tried powering up. No power. Have removed the battery and holding down the power button for a minute, plugged it into charger and tried powering it up. No power. I'm thinking it's a brick at this point. I don't know what else to do.
leave the battery out and find another charger, borrow one from a friend just to see if it fires up.
It's a new charger. The light on the battery turns solid green when ( I assume ) it's fully charged. Appreciate your input.
Thanks for your help. How do I check the power switch connections? Will I need to take the laptop apart? Again, thanks
yes sir, and you need an ohm meter. to check if it is working correctly. My guess is the switch is fine and you have a bad motherboard.
You got a light indicating its taking a charge to the battery when plugged in and its missing the hard drive? Remove the keyboard and check its connection, it might be loose from someone tinkering with it, with it plugged back in itll be able to power on since the powerbutton is part of the keyboard
