Hello everyone! In your opinion better a t470s i7-6600u or i5-7300u, thanks a lot!

why not T480/s ?
T470s is dual core processors
T480s is quad core processors

Thank you! They are refurbished and the t480s is not available ... so no yoga x380 for you? >;)

the x380 Yoga is the same generation as the T480, so it is also quad core 8th gen Intel. The Yoga is a good choice if you want the flexibility of a 2-in-1 you can use like a tablet. If you don’t need that and don’t think you’ll use it much then a T480 or x280 may be more sensible. They should all be more or less around the same price point. Just don’t get an E-series or L380 if you can avoid, unless they are a big discount. The E and L series are not the same build quality as the premium X, X1, T and P series models.

thanks for the answer, very helpful!

my pleasure! That second number in the model tells you the generation. The first number is screen size. So a ThinkPad T470 is a 14” 7th Gen T-series laptop. A T580 would be a 15.6” 8th Gen T-series. The ThinkPads will almost always have the same generation of Intel CPU. So 8th Gen ThinkPad = 8th Gen Core CPU (usually).

When they got to 10th Gen they changed the names to screen size and generation. So the successor to the T490 was the T14 Gen 1. That’s a little harder to follow but I guess Lenovo didn’t want to name it the T4100 🤷. But you get the idea. T15 Gen 2 would be a 15.6” T series and Gen 2 means it would *probably* have an 11th Gen core CPU (or AMD Ryzen)

The X series are the premium ultraportables. X1 series showcases leading edge technology (i.e. fastest, thinnest, lightest ThinkPads and most innovative, like the X1 Fold). T are the premium business laptops. P series are the performance/workstation/desktop replacement models.

Then E series is the budget/economy line and L series is a little nicer than E, but not premium like the X, X1, T and P. Of course even a “budget” ThinkPad is still a ThinkPad and a pretty great laptop. Lenovo are muddying the waters a little now with Yogas and “ThinkBooks” and don’t get me started on the Z-series lol. But those general rules still apply.

Hope that helps you shop and decide. ☺️

It helps a lot! Thank you again! 🙂

Both have same base clock but i5-7300 seems to have a bit more performance. Just a tiny, tiny bit more. But let's face it - given the fact that both are 2C4T low power, then - compared with just one generation newer i5 which is 4C8T i'd say 'one eyed is king among blind' 🙂
Just see for yourself:

Thank you! The alternative would be a yoga x380 i5-8350u, do you advise this?
The budget is low unfortunately >;)
