Thinkpad W701ds: Completely amazed, yet again, by how easy and accessible upgrading a ThinkPad
Completely amazed, yet again, by how easy and accessible upgrading a ThinkPad is. Even one that I've never pulled apart such as this one. Bash ThinkPads, and I'll scoff at you.
Now I have a i7-940XM powered W701ds!
I really don't want to buy another 940 just to find out my other one somehow failed between the last system and my W701ds.
Now I'd like to see you figure out the witchcraft behind the MXM slot. I'd love to be able to upgrade the GPU
For these models, it's really not worth it. The difference between the FX2800 and FX3800 isn't that great. If I find one that doesn't cost 5000$ i will get it though.
I however did contemplate a GPU upgrade when I was shopping for my P70, getting it with a smaller GPU and then upgrading a year in or so. But when I saw the prices on the modules I swiftly backpedaled on that idea and got it with a M4000M.
Oh yeah, I know some people tried to get other cards to work in these without any luck. Something about a specific pinout or vbios? Would be nice to overcome that and really put a beefy card in here
