I just purchased an X1 extreme with 32 gigs, and they're shipping in two days. I want to put a 4TB nvme drive in the second slot. My Q is, does it need a heat sink, and if so, which one is recommended? Thanks.

Usually for the form factor and the slim dessing, most laptops come with thermal pads on the NVME Drive, I think that should work

Heres a good forum discussing the thickness of the 4 tb compared to 2tb, probably should read this before committing to a few hundred on 4tb if the board isn't designed for the space, I have 2 2tb external drives and just leave each machine at different locations, so data stays on me

so it looks like all X1 extreme use single side nvme, now if only the X1 had room for 3 nvme's.

this is why I use external

I have many external SSD's both nvme and USB A and C. I'll order a 2 tb internal single side. You have any info on which is the best for my X1?

not really, they all pretty much are the same, just different advertisements and strategies to make $
