Thinkpad X1: I know it's quite an old laptop, but is there anyone in the UK that would
I just dropped my X1 Carbon and f***ed the screen 😡 is there any way I can disable the touch screen so I can at least log in?
I know it's quite an old laptop, but is there anyone in the UK that would have spares?
I'm self-employed and need this laptop for work 😭 any help appreciated 😢🙏🏼
You can try disabling the touchscreen from bios but im not sure there's an option for that
The touch controller can be disabled. Try connecting your laptop to hdmi and closing the lid, this should allow you to use an external mouse and onscreen keyboard to login and disable your HID TOUCH CONTROLLER in Device manager under HID devices
and if that doesnt work right away id say unplug the entire screen and use hdmi to disable the touch controller in the device manager.
yeah that would be the a great idea too, althought i'm not sure if the touch controller will be visible in Device manager after disconnecting, as it is a internal usb device (or at least it used to be on XX30 through XX90 series. It for sure was like that on a T440s, T450s, T480 and X1Y3, not sure about carbons. After unplugging it is not visible.
Might be possible to "show hidden devices" and disable it from there
thank you for your reply... The screen calmed down enough for me to log in and disable touch screen in device manager 👍🏼
it has to be visible as a disconnected device, and if not id say take the display assembly apart and seperate the touch controller from the actual touch interface to stop it from reacting
Right, I've been able to log in and disable screen in device manager 👍🏼 next question... Is there anyone in the UK that has spares for a gen3 X1 Carbon? Would need the back casing also as that's broken too 😢
Touchscreens are great if you like looking through smears and fingerprints.
I have had 3 in the last few years when the novelty wears off you just keep cleaning the screen, and cleaning the screen, and cleaning the screen. No more for me.
