Thinkpad X1: Is the camera quality meant to be this bad?
These are photos taken from my X1 Extreme Gen 2 webcam. Is the camera quality meant to be this bad? It looks horrendous with very dull colours. Grainy with poor textures/outlining. The photos in at the end are from my T440p
laptop companies don't bother to improve their camera, so yes they are (laptop cameras) naturally bad.
That's as good as you're going to get on a ThinkPad or just about any laptop other than a Facebook Pro.
The image clarity and granulation is worse on the T440p but the colours aren't dull. Both sets of photos were taken with the lights on. At least the T440p webcam doesn't look dull and the detail even looks better despite the slightly lower quality. Outlining is better and the image looks more natural. The X1 Extreme Gen 2 has lighting sensitivity, fim colours and a much weaker sensor that is finnicky and captures worse ohtline detail >:/
Detail is still better on the T440p and colour. More natural looking, less washed out and better outline
No idea. They were taken at the exactly the same time. One just doesn't capture light well at all or pick it up well
Taken around the same time but T440p images slightly later in the day. Both times my light was on. I'll retake the photos
Will dl but sometimes the X1 Extreme Gen 2 goes slightly dark as the Cmera app tracks my face. The T440p doesn't do that due to lack of the built in technology woth the webcam. The X1 Extreme definitely doesn't pick up light as well but I will take the photos again
It's really dark outside now but I can take the photos tomorrow. Takes a while to start up my T440p as well because it is old
then idk why it takes u so long, my old thinkpads all have ssds and boot in a matter of seconds being totally ready after abt a min max if at all
Both are crap in my opinion. Not so surprise due to the fact that laptop webcam are shit as a truth. Line-up in 2022 has improved though
Maybe better lighting from the front will help. There are inexpensive LED lights placed in a ring shape for this purpose.
The newer camera looks way better. The light is all blown out on the t440p. But….the t440p camera is pretty good for what it is.
Yep. Front facing webcams are never equal to even what you’ll find on the back of a decent midrange smartphone. It’s always been that way. They are slowly improving somewhat though. For a long time 1-2 mp 720p was pretty much the standard. I guess they were saving money because they figured almost no one takes important photos with the things. They’re only intended for video streaming. Though now that videoconferenci
Just how important is the quality of a web cam though. As long as parties can be seen by each other, why worry?
thats not entirely bad pretty sure if u had direct light it be better..
edited: i just realized those two last pics are from t440p.. it is bad..
on another note..i think this is pretty normal for laptops like these.. UX was never really considered first.. its only engineered.. its the same reason why some of these laptop have thrash touchpad and some really decent touchpads..
