Thinkpad X1: It's as though while the laptops are getting a lot more powerful and thinner,

Am I the only one that thinks that the webcam quality on ThinkPads is declining? The overall image clarity and outlines/shading on my T440p camera is vastly superior to the camera in my X1 Extreme Gen 2. It's as though while the laptops are getting a lot more powerful and thinner, the compromise is that the cameras also must be smaller resulting in lower quality camera sensors and stuff

I think it is just you. I checked my W540 against my P53 and the P53 I thought was better

P series have always had way better cameras than the X1 and W series. They are designed with power in mind and have a mhch larger form factor with more headroom. I am talking about the X1 line mostly. The cameras are substantially worse than those found on older T series laptops. The camera sensor and lens is also much larger on P53's

While I do not have an X1E but I do have an X1 Carbon gen 6 and I also preferred it over the W540

Interesting...

in fairness, the W series is what they P series became. It was the flagship performance workstation line. They just changed the name to P-series.

That is not true. The P-series have constantly had lesser hardware cameras, but that changed when the P1 was released.

Yep, it’s just you. The webcams in both my P17 and X1 Nano are worlds better than the ThinkPads they replaced and those ThinkPads had better cameras than the ones that came before them. 🤷 Maybe it’s a defect or software related or the lens is just dirty.
