Looks like somebody actually modded X260 keyboard into NEC VK23, but the trackpoint doesn't work.

For those who don't know, VK23 is actually X260 manufactured by Lenovo under NEC brand.

normally the trackpoint goes on a USB or a serial input on the mobo. You can exploit it, or use the internal usb that goes to something you don't want.
the camera.

also would have been fancy if NEC totally purchased the ThinkPad brand.

On which market NECs were sold?

Here's an example, ThinkCentre M750q Tiny under NEC brand.

was there any big difference in price on these machines compared to the Lenovo versions?

actually no differences other than logo.

and the quality was about the same as well and the field repairs and upgrades or was it limited in another way?

Mostly yes, all of internal parts share same Lenovo FRU P/Ns. For this NEC branded X260, the bottom docking station port is missing - other than that you'll find almost everything inside are interchangeable with X260.

that is so interesting, thank you so much

Literally a Frankenstein laptop. NEC parts are hard to come by or even purchase one.
